The Cat(s) Came Back (or at Least Arrived)

The kitties arrived yesterday to much joy and fanfare from me.  I received a call from Zurich airport saying mein Katzen would arrive at 3:30 p.m. CET.  I left work around 2:45, went for another grocery store trip (three in two days….suh-weet) and stocked them up with kittie basics.  I finally walked up to my door at 3:31 and there was a gentleman in front of the door to my apartment (as a side note – Swiss punctuality is not a joke, folks.  It they say 3:30, that means they’ll be ringing your doorbell at 3:29.).  He looked at me, and said something along the lines of “Swiss German, Swiss German, Swiss German, Swiss German, Expatica, Swiss German.”

“Yah, yah…Expatica….that’s me!”

He opened the door to his delivery truck and there they were – katzen.  Dazed, confused, and meowing for their life.

They were delivered into the apartment and once removed from their cages, promptly hid (under the bed and behind the couch, natch).  I offered the driver a glass of water and he actually accepted.  As many of you know, offers of beverages in the States are done a courtesy, but rarely accepted.  We had an awkward conversation limited to basic English and then he left.  I looked around and was thankful that my life was starting to solidify.  Arrival of our precious katzen was only one piece of the puzzle of my new life here in Switzerland.

The most important part of the puzzle – arrival of Expatico – well, we’ll keep working on that.

  1. Glad to hear both you and the katzen made it safely and hoping that Expatico makes it soon too. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure and keep telling us what’s up so we can live vicariously! Seriously, enjoy yourself!

  2. Drat! I tried my best to intercept the cats, and deter them to another “mildly safe” country. I guess I’ll have to be less cheap when I come over to stay! Tim and I will start planning!
