At the Bottom of the Lake

A pretty macabre scene happening here in Zurich.  Some folks were diving for a missing boat piece but instead, they found a number of urns with human remains.  The first reports had the total number of urns uncovered at just over a dozen, but new reports are saying there are over 100.  What makes the story even more controversial is the possible link to Dignitas, “a Swiss assisted dying group that helps those with terminal illness and severe physical and mental illnesses to die assisted by qualified doctors and nurses”.  The first bit of evidence linking Dignitas to the crime is the fact all the urns appear to be from one crematorium used by the organization.  Second bit of evidence is that the urns were disposed of in an area of the lake that is near the Dignitas facility.

The whole situation is oddly ironic – Dignitas touts themselves as an organization that provides people the dignity to die as they choose, but in the end, they took away the last bit of dignity these people had by disposing of their remains in an undignified and careless manner.
